Industry Web Resources:

  • Census Business Builder - "A suite of services that provide selected demographic and economic data from the Census Bureau tailored to specific types of users in a simple to access and use format."
  • Census Business and Economy - The Census Bureau produces economic data across the entire economy on a monthly, quarterly, yearly, and five-year basis. 
  • Data.gov - Excellent and growing source for raw data, including 5 pages on data sets on labor and employment.
  • North American Industry Classification System - Standard used by Federal statistical agencies in classifying business establishments for the purpose of collecting, analyzing, and publishing statistical data related to the U.S. business economy. NAICS codes are assigned by different research firms and therefore each company may have different codes in different databases.
  • Standard Industrial Classification Older system (doesn't cover industries that emerged after 1987). However, a company must declare its primary SIC in Form S-1 when filing to go public.
