Five Minute Tutorial on Adding Video to Blackboard using Kaltura

Using your Zoom Meeting Room to Record Short Video and Screensharing Responses

Kaltura is great for recording lectures and screensharing. You can also use Zoom to do this. It works well for recording short video responses to students that save to the cloud through Zoom. You can share the video with them in discussion posts or as feedback on a journal assignment as a short link that they can follow. Since it is recorded to Zoom's cloud storage, your students will be able to go back and watch it multiple times if they want to, for reference. This short video gives instructions on how to do this.

Some Video Recording Options

  • Zoom. With your Zoom account you can start a meeting in your personal meeting room. Then if you want you can share your screen if you want to walk them through a web tutorial or a slideshow. Then click the record button and "Record to Cloud". End the meeting when you are done recording. Under the "Recordings" link in the Zoom software there will be a link to the video that you can copy and paste into Blackboard after it finished processing.
  • Kaltura. After downloading Kaltura Capture you can record video through your camera, or from your screen. Adding "My Media" as a module to your Blackboard homescreen will take you to some basic editing options. (See the video on this page for help setting this up.) These can be added into Blackboard under the Kaltura button that lives under the Tools tab when you go to add things to a learning Module.
  • Screencastify. This is an addon for your Chrome Browser that allows you to record your screen along with audio. It can save these videos straight to your Google Drive and you can share them with a link wherever you would like.
  • Quicktime. This comes as a standard application in Macs and you can use it to record video from your built in laptop camera. You might want to edit it in iMovie, which is sometimes included with your Mac, but can also be downloaded for free from the Apple Store app.
